Translation preparation

Files ready before translation starts

‹ All services

We put source files in order before they go to translation: optimising the format, unifying styles and removing stray line breaks that get in the way of clean segmentation. Translated files come back to layout with no data lost and no mess to clear up.

What we do with the files

We replace manual formatting with proper styles, remove unnecessary hard returns and spaces standing in for indents, and merge text split across separate frames for no reason. We check character encoding. Extracting text from graphics, fields and embedded objects falls under localisation engineering.

Where you have your own requirements for the output format, we prepare the file to fit your process.

The result: the file goes into translation clean, and comes back in a state that can be laid out without manual repair.

Why it pays off

Preparation is the cheapest stage of the whole process, and the one whose payoff grows with every language version. With one language the difference is barely visible. With a dozen, and with a document that keeps coming back for updates, the same work pays for itself many times over.

Formats

We prepare files in whatever format your process calls for — including InDesign (IDML), FrameMaker (MIF), Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and XML. If the material arrives in a form nothing can be exported from, we rebuild it first.

What you get

A file ready to hand over to translators, with structure and styles in order. Along with it, a note on what needed attention in the material — because that tends to come back on the next project from the same source.
